Art & Crafts review – May 2016
Our guild accomplished a lot over the past 12 months with the support of our 80 plus members, community donations, and a grant from the Georgia Council of the Arts. We ask for your continued support to keep art & crafts alive in your community.
The $2,500 grant and matching funds from community donors supported our 2015 summer youth program. 19 classes were filled to capacity with a total of 125 youth attending. Low cost classes made it affordable for families and 29 disadvantaged youth received free classes. This was our best summer program!
During September 2015, the guild presented a photo display “Youth Artists of the Month” at our gallery store, Artworks Artisan Center. The exhibit featured children in the summer art program. This was our first photo exhibit!
During March 2016, we celebrated “Youth Art Month” with a month-long exhibit of drawings and paintings by 35 local youth. Youth ranged from 5 thru 15 years of age. Schools represented included Towns County public schools, Union County public schools, two private schools, and one home school. The exhibit was held at the Towns County Library in Hiawassee. This was our first youth art exhibit!
The guild had a booth at the Georgia Mountain Fair and Georgia Fall Festival supporting our local artisans. The guild had 3 successful art & crafts shows at the North Georgia Technical College in Blairsville which were well attended by locals and tourists. We also supported works of local artisans through our ArtWorks Artisan Center in Hiawassee.
We are building a scholarship fund and hope to award a scholarship to a student studying art or art education in May 2017. Thank you for supporting local youth, local artisans and our non-profit guild!
